Se Fin! Glass Project Installed

After several weeks the art glass piece collaboration is finally hanging in Laura and David's home. Marek, the wood man extraordinaire finished the framing and we were able to install the piece this evening. This is a shot from the street view looking in. Had it been a bright sunny day we would have had better luck photographing from the interior, however, the light just did not lend itself well to a good photo. I will return to do more shots. If you scroll down you can see the project progression. It was a wonderful collaboration with a lovely couple.

Just a reminder that Ravenswood Art Walk is October 3rd and 4th and the studio will be open for viewing and purchasing those Christmas presents early! We want the Walk to be a big success so please visit http://www.ravenswoodartwalk.org to view other amazing artists that will be showing thier work!

I've been working on a new series of pieces and will send a couple of teaser shots out this weekend. I hope everyone is enjoying an oddly Autmunal summer, who knows what Autumn will bring! Given the start of my PhD program next Monday I hope I will have occasion to drop a note now and then. Wish me luck!

Wild Flowers in Glass

Happy Sunday to everyone! It's a hot muggy day here in Chicago so I thought it would be a good time to snap some photos in my "grotto" glass studio. It's a "garden unit" so although it has lots of windows for light, it stays fairly cool even on the warmest of days. I wanted to snap some shots of one of the other pieces I did for the Faculty Art Show. This is very much reminiscent of the Steph Brady style of combining fused, stained and sandblasted art elements. If anyone out there knows how to photog glass, please get in touch with me because I have so much trouble capturing the color and detail simultaneously. So, I use a black background to capture sandblast detail and white background to capture the color of the glass. This piece is about 12" x 16" and would hang nicely in a window. The great thing with glass is that it changes depending on the light coming in through the course of the day.
